Roberti Haul Breakdown: Only 7 Contributors from District. Took $2,000 From Citigroup PAC.

Democrat Dan Roberti’s $300,000 second quarter fundraising total topped the crowded field in the Connecticut 5th Congressional District contest. Most of Roberti’s haul came from of out-of-state contributors, with a boost from generous family members. According to Roberti’s finance report, he received contributions from 7 donors who live in the district, including his father, Washington lobbyist Vincent Roberti, and brother Vincent Roberti, Jr., both of Kent. In the first quarter, Roberti collected 5 contributions from supporters who listed addresses in the 5th District, which runs from the western suburbs of Hartford to the northwest corner of the state.

Other family donators include Christina Roberti, a student in Franklin, Massachusetts, who gave the maximum of $7,500.  Those Roberti students give a bundle to political campaigns.  Uncle William Roberti, who once ran Brooks Brothers, also gave $7,500.

Pennsylvania Democratic Senator Robert Casey’s Keystone America PAC gave $1,000 on the last day of the reporting period.  Some other names from the Democratic establishment that pepper the report include Doug Sosnik, John Breaux, Douglas Schoen, and Harold Ford.  Documentary maker Ken Burns, for whom Roberti has done public relations work, and New York public relations legend Howard Rubenstein also contributed.

On June 15th, the populist-sounding candidate accepted a $2,000 contribution from Citigroup PAC. Rivals are likely to make note of that as they trudge to local party summer events.

A maximum contribution to this race is divided into three $2,500 segments: convention, primary, and general election.  Each $2,500 is restricted to use in one phase of the long campaign. It can make for tricky spending and reporting.
