Roldan PAC Treasurer: “Office” = “Office Supplies”— With an Update.

The treasurer of state Representative Kelvin Roldan’s political action committee tells Daily Ructions that the lobbyist-funded operation did not pay Roldan rent. Rather, West Hartford resident Matthew Sorokin says, the committee reimbursed Roldan for office supplies in the run-up to Tuesday’s Hartford Democratic Town Committee primary in the newly-constituted 4th District.

Where the report said “office” for the purpose of an expenditure to former dance captain Roldan, it ought to have said “office supplies,” as it did in other places.

The report, with decimal points askew, blank spaces, and assorted hieroglyphics will be corrected.

UPDATE: Reader Rich Wareing has taken made his way through the messy Roldan report and offers these observations:

That’s very interesting Kevin, because there are actually 4 reimbursements to Representative Roldan. 2 on 2/27 (1 for $396.53 and 1 for $43.54) which list 150 Broad Street and are for “Office” and have the code rcw, which is election-speak for “reimburse campaign workers.” There are expenditures on 2/19 and 2/20 for the same amounts, but they list the Staples in E. Hartford as the address and are for “Office Supplies.” Those codes appear to be OVHD, which stands for “overhead operating costs.” SEEC Form 20 defines overhead operating costs as “expenditure of overhead operating costs, including the cost of renting office space, parking spaces, repairing or servicing office
furniture and equipment used in connection with committee activities, related insurance, utility payments for committee headquarters,
subscriptions and similar overhead operating expenses.” What are the odds that the Representative incurred 2 sets of identical charges, 1 for “reimbursement” for “Office” at his residence” and 1 for “Overhead” for “Office Supplies” at a Staples in East Hartford? Did he get reimbursed twice for the same “office supplies” or is it something else?
