Sergeant Blumenthal Scrambling Jets.

Not a good day for Sergeant Blumenthal.  The team parachuted in save the U.S. Senate candidates from his military service claims forgot to get Vice President Joseph Biden to chant the mantra, “We’ve moved on.”  Biden, speaking at a barbecue for wounded veterans today, put some attorney general on a spit and started roasting.

“I didn’t serve in Vietnam.  I don’t want to make a Blumenthal mistake here,” Biden declared.

Revelations of Blumenthal claims to have served in Vietnam after the May 18th New York Times report breaking the story received muted attention in much of the Connecticut press.  Blumenthal’s unambiguous November 2008 statement reported in the Stamford Advocate declaring, “I wore the uniform in Vietnam,” was buried in the Hearst papers that published the story.  That deadly quote was picked up by the New York Post’s Jennifer Fermino and given wide circulation.

The turbocharging of the story today by Biden will raise questions among nervous Democrats in Connecticut and Washington on how effective Blumenthal mouthpiece Starla Romash has been in making it safe for the candidate to leave his foxhole.
