Sharper than a serpent’s tooth: Gillett makes maximum contribution to Elliott after Lamont protected her from herself for months.
Marissa Gillett was the author of her own misfortune as the chair of the state’s powerful utilities regulator. When evidence of her evasions and erratic behavior were exposed by The Courant’s Ed Mahony, she had to go. Governor Ned Lamont expressed his confidence in Gillett longer than most governors would and longer than was prudent.
Gillett’s ingratitude was made public Friday. Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Josh Elliott disclosed a maximum contribution from Gillett made on March 4th. Anyone who paid attention to the excruciating Gillett saga from the publication of a nutty opinion piece in December 2024 until her October 2025 resignation will not be surprised that she has turned on the man who appointed her to the career-boosting job in 2019.
The deleted messages, missing emails, incomplete court disclosures, and preposterous explanations are Gillett’s unusual legacy. A $340 contribution to Elliott highlights it and adds one more immutable dark shade to it.
Curiously, Gillett declined to state her principal occupation in the campaign contribution disclosure, leaving unsolved the mystery of what she does.
