Show Business Saturday.

Film notable Quentin Tarantino and writer Alan Ball are going at it hammer and tongs in their highfalutin Hollywood neighborhood. Seems Ball, writer of American Beauty (about a nutty neighborhood), Six Feet Under and True Blood is driving next door eminence Tarantino mad, mad, mad with squawking macaws.  A soundproof menagerie has provided no relief for the filmmaker whose credits include Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers, Kill Bill, and Inglorious Basterds. Tarantino has filed suit because he requires quiet to create screen mayhem. Those ought to be some depositions. Each has made more out of less.

Joe Queenan’s sendup of Oscar co-host and Yale graduate school student James Franco is worth the price of a subscription to The Weekly Standard.  It’s behind a pay wall, so that’s that’s the only way to read it. A site that requires no subscription but ought to be visited is Nikke Finke’s Deadline Hollywood.  She’s a splendid terror.

How can it be that show business royalty Liza Minnelli becomes eligible for Medicare today? The Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony recipient made her screen debut in 1949 in the final scene of In the Good Old Summertime. She was more recently a hit as Lucille II in the television series Arrested Development.

Here she is at 18, singing with her mother at the London Palladium, and then at the dedication of the renovated Statue of Liberty.
