Special Delivery From Big Business to Governor Today. Republicans Betrayed. Long Memories Engaged.
It’s a Friday afternoon dump for the leaders of five large Connecticut companies. The highly paid heads of Aetna, UTC, CIGNA, Travelers, and The Hartford will deliver a letter supporting Democrat and Working Families Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s broad tax increases on Connecticut workers.
The announcement comes as a humiliating betrayal of the Republican legislators to whom those business poo-bahs often turn for help. The whiff of costly retribution began pervading the air of the capitol village soon after news of the deed began to circulate. The action by the cosseted big business leaders will free Republicans to take more populist stands urged upon them by one active and growing wing of the party. The five companies may have unleashed the doctrine of unintended consequences on their long term interests in public policy and politics in the state.

Precisely which party is the party of big business? I hope folks will remember this the next time someone tries to claim the GOP is in bed with big business.
I also hope GOP legislators remember this the next time one of these Benedict Arnolds comes begging for a favor. Tell them to ask them pal Dannell 88.
No better than any other mega-secondary-not so-special-interest. Good riddance,,, of this twisted and destructive form of free speech.
There are 2 types of businesses, the large multi-state businesses such as the ones who signed that letter, have large staffs to handle regulations and can spread the cost of compliance out over multi-sites. Taxes are not that big an issue for them (IE GE) labor costs are a bigger concern.
Then there are smaller businesses with maybe one site in Ct. Compliance costs hurt and taxes can’t be shifted to other states.
I would remind the Gov and his minions, just how many new jobs did they companies that signed that letter create in Ct in the pass 10 years?
From the folks that brought you the income tax. No wonder CBIA has been so quiet about the Governor’s tax package. It’s hard to believe that they would send this letter before seeing even 1$ of concessions from the unions.
Curious whether these CEOs are Connecticut residents and how much in taxes the companies pay in CT.
This is how Business repays conservatives in this state for helping them remain competitive, successful and PROFITABLE? Screw them then. The next time these “titans of industry” come whining for tax breaks, begging to lower the costs of doing biz in CT, fewer regulations the GOP should tell them to go screw. They are undermining their own arguments, their credibility is in the crapper and are now helping themselves right over the cliff and don’t DESERVE the Republicans’ protection. What complete dicks these guys are–right up there with Biz Council of Fairfield County.
Shame on these companies to support Dan Malloy’s budget without even seeing what the republican’s put on the table. I say we boycott these companies…shame on them.
Based on this, I just notified my insurance agent to move my insurance to an insurer who is not on this list. I also sent out an email to my entire database asking them to do the same.
It’s high time we stopped being victims of these tax and spend liberals and their corporate hacks. We need to fight back! Pass it on! Vote with your wallet today to send a message to these CEO’s. If enough of us do it, they will get the message.
