Supreme Court Tense as Justice Harper Used Swearing-in to Settle Score with Colleague.
State Supreme Court Justice Lubbie Harper, Jr. used his April 8th swearing-in ceremony to stiff a colleague on the court. The newest justice refused to invite its most senior member, Justice Flemming L. Norcott, Jr. to join the other justices to watch Governor Dannel P. Malloy administer the oath of office to his first appointment to the high court, Daily Ructions has learned. Denizens of the court complex pursed their lips and rolled their eyes when they discovered the excitable Harper had invited every justice but Norcott to the event at which the New Haven resident urged others to “embrace my life’s journey.”
The mood at the hothouse on Capitol Avenue, where rivalries, slights, and high school hurts abound, has grown tense even by court standards as a result of the Harper stunt. No word on whether Chief Justice Chase Rogers tried to defuse the ugly exclusion of Norcott by Harper.
