The Gentle Call to Run For Governor?

Parson Shays is at it again, according to the Greenwich Time.  Oh, how he would love to come back “up” here and be governor.  Living in Washington–and moving to Maryland– since losing his congressional seat in 2008 has given him a keen sense of what needs to be done there here.  How lucky are we?  The Vietnam era conscientious objector turned Iraq war enthusiast is reveling in the attention generated by his flirtation with a return to Connecticut.

Connecticut, he says, needs a parent.  We’ll know he’s going to run when he writes one of his unctuous fundraising letters.  My favorite Shays missive remains the one he penned from Iraq while on a congressional junket, inspired early one morning, he wrote, by the lovely sound of the Muslim call to prayer, so send money to my campaign.  Ah, yes, what a statesman.  Connecticut is not suffering enough?

In his 2008 bid for a 12th term, Shays received just 20% of the vote in his hometown of Bridgeport.  Remember when the petulant Shays threatened to run for mayor of Bridgeport?  Those who knew him best rendered their verdict 15 months ago.  No need to reverse it.
