The Race to Collect Signatures-and Then Deliver Them.

The deadline for submitting primary petitions is tomorrow at 4 p.m.  Petitions must be delivered by then to the Registrar of Voters of the towns of the people who signed them.  Each page on the prescribed form, contains lines for 21 signatures from registered party members in a town.  The rules are not as complicated as in New York, but Connecticut does have requirements that must be met.  This is where spirited but inexperienced campaigns can stumble.

As of this afternoon, Peter Schiff’s campaign for the U.S. Senate was still looking for people to sign petitions.  Here’s an email sent by a Woodbury Republican:

Once they get the signatures, the Schiff campaign needs “patriots” to deliver the petitions to the appropriate towns tomorrow.  Here’s an email sending out the call for help:

Fellow Patriots,   Peter Schiff needs our help. Many of you have been gathering signatures for Peter. The campaign now needs runners today and Tuesday to get those signatures to the registrar of voters in each town. This sounds like a jerry-built operation that ought to have been in place days ago.  To be seeking volunteers today to perform the crucial task of turning in petitions tomorrow is taking a big risk with meeting the requirements of the law to qualify for the August 10th primary.
