The Silence of the Missing Supporters.
Six weeks ago, former Ambassador Tom Foley won the Republican nomination for governor on the first ballots with the support of more than 700 delegates. Neither of Foley’s rivals came close. It was an impressive victory for a candidate who’d months before beat a retreat from the U.S. Senate campaign in the face of the Linda McMahon juggernaut.
For the past week, Foley has tried to deflect and refute questions about 2 arrests involving the alleged misuse of motor vehicles in 1981 and 1993. Foley, who has a short history with the state’s Republican loyalists, is at a decisive moment in his campaign for governor. He seems surprised that his vague memory of the events that led to his night in a Long Island jail and his inconsistent answers to simple questions will keep the controversies alive.
Foley, according to CTMirror.org, “did not make a point of disclosing the two arrests” when he was nominated for the ambassadorship to Ireland. He sought, the Courant disclosed last week, a written statement from his ex-wife that he had never physically abused her. These issues must have been much on his mind, particularly since his ex-wife had refused to sign a similar statement six years before.
The controversies seem to have driven Foley’s supporters into a public state of silence. No one of note has stepped forward to defend the Greenwich multimillionaire. If Foley’s support is as shallow as it appears, another week of murmuring, headlines, and fumbling responses could start a stampede of Republican primary voters into the undecided column, where his opponents, Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele and business association leader Nelson “Oz” Griebel await them.

Kevin, I guess you don’t pay much attention to comments on your own blog do you? Foley hasn’t lost any support from the people who comment here who are his supporters. We’re all still supporting him no matter how many times you try and beat this dead horse. It’s NOT mine or anyone else’s place to explain anything for him, he’s more than capable of doing that himself and he’s done that to my satisfaction and to the satisfaction of ALL of his supporters that I know.
You have to be the biggest drama queen I’ve ever seen in recent history. Some guy called “Questions” who comments on one of your other lame Foley blog postings wants to know if you’ve ever heard of Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment? You and he have that whole “self-righteous” thing going on and I’ll bet you two would get along just lovely with one another.
An arrest is not a conviction. When a criminal prosecution is dropped it basically means that the facts or circumstances, in retrospect, did not warrant an arrest. The standard is innocent until proven guilty. So let us move on.

DJ, Kevin hasn’t provided any evidence that Foley’s supporters are abandoning him, he’s implying that’s true because people are running to the media and making statements of support.
Kevin’s been on a one-man crusade here to make something out of nothing. Even the liberals at the Courant dropped this whole thing a day or two after they published this nothing story that no one (other than Fedele and Grebal) cares about.
Second line “are” should be “aren’t.” Sorry about that.
Time to let it go Mr. Rennie. The people I know who are supporting Mr. Foley are still supporting him and aren’t swayed by any of this. I think Mr. Fedele and Mr. Griebel look bad in the eyes of the voters when they exaggerate by using words like “imprisonment.” Even they gave up after a day or two.
I agree with the other comments here. No one I talk to among the party faithful have changed their views about Foley.
If anything, more are moving to Foley from Fedele. Those GOP voters who follow the news recognize that Fedele and Boughton are trying to scam the taxpayers into funding their joint campaign when neither one of them qualified for CEP on their own.
At BBQs this weekend, I heard from a couple Foley supporters who gave money to Boughton and were royally pi**ed off that their contributions ended up with Fedele.
They’re moving their votes to Lisa Wilson-Foley as a result. Too bad for Mayor Mark. I think he made a big mistake with this one.
Time to let it go= Billy Cortese. Give it up Bill. No one is voting for Lisa Foley. Everybody knows that your boy Foley was silently shopping her around so that Boughton would be tied up with a primary.
Problem is that in doing so, they just forced Boughton to go out and raise a enough money to help get some dough to run against Lisa Foley.
On primary night when Foley loses, he should point to his mishandling of the LG situation, and ask himself why he asked about five dozen people to run with him and was turned down everytime.
If the Tom Foley camp had any brains, they would have made sure that Boughton did not have a primary. Not wanting to piss anyone off, the pressure would have been on Boughton to sit out the primary.
Once again, the gang that couldn’t shoot straight-the Tom Foley gang, screws up again.
In some ways I hope Tom Foley and Lisa Foley win. It will be fun watching Tom Foley explain at every stop that she is not his ex-wife.

Jimbo, Boughton gave all his “dough” to Fedele so he has none. Not only that, Boughton had very little to do with raising that “dough” it was all Fedele in his attempt to circumvent the minimum threshold he needed for the taxpayer campaign handout.
Foley didn’t have to “shop around” Lisa Wilson-Foley, Boughton has enough people that can’t stand him to give any opponent of his 20 to 30 percent at any state-wide convention he’s a candidate in.
Your logic is all wrong and stupid. Tom Foley will win the primary even a moron can see that one coming.
Jimbo=Mark Boughton. Give it up Mark. Man, the rhetoric and crap coming from the Fedele/Boughton “team” gets more and more desperate as we inch closer to primary day. Even if you guys do get all that taxpayer money to keep going negative against Tom Foley, Fedele can’t win the primary. You might win the LG primary but who really cares? The LG position is about as useless as you know what on a bull. It’s not like you can springboard that into a successful run for Governor (i.e. Mike Fedele) at some point in the future, especially with all your baggage.
Have a nice primary Mark now that your “mate” just stole all your “dough.”
