This is How You Reach a Critical Mass.
More bad news for Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. Congressman Jim Himes today declared his support for Democratic attorney general contender George Jepsen. It’s a major endorsement in the closely watched contest for the office incumbent Richard Blumenthal is vacating to run for the United States Senate. Jepsen was a strategist in Himes’s 2008 upset victory over 21 year incumbent 4th district congressman Christopher Shays.
The Himes endorsement of Jepsen may embolden other big dogs to endorse Jepsen (or New Haven Democrat Cam Staples) as party leaders try to send a blunt message to Bysiewicz. Democrats who’ve watched the unfurling of the Middletown Democrat’s clumsy bid have gone from curious to appalled as word of her gobsmacking poor performance under oath during the past week spreads. Bysiewicz confirmed party leaders’ worries yesterday by seeking to embargo the deposition, a highly unusual tact for a public official plaintiff. The whiff of panic from Bysiewicz provides a stark contrast to the sure-footed Jepsen, as Democrats force themselves to contemplate how a Bysiewicz candidacy in the general election will energize and delight Republicans.
Add a video editor with a YouTube account to Bysiewicz’s myriad troubles.
UPDATE: Bysiewicz calls retreat. The Courant has the story on its successful intervention opposing the secretary of the state’s motion to block public access to her deposition.
