Tony Guglielmo Often Knows Things.

I’ve written before that state Senator Tony Guglielmo is the most natural politician I know.  He remains unencumbered by affectations or  a sense of entitlement.  His optimism is accompanied by a keen insight into his fellow man, two characteristics that are not often joined in one person.  He was on to John Rowland long before others.  “Punk” is how, I recall, Tony described the Rowland approach to trying to win his vote at the 1994 Republican convention. Some considerable element of Tony’s insight and judgment derives from his wife, Doris, who is fooled by none of the pretenses of politics.

It had some meaning today when the 9th term Stafford Republican endorsed Oz Griebel for governor.  This is especially bad news for Michael Fedele who as lieutenant governor presides over the Senate.  It sends a signal that those who know Fedele best are not rushing to his side.  There’s been no stampede of Republican senators to endorse Fedele.  His imperious manner in discouraging Republicans from engaging in lengthy debates on the Senate floor has not endeared him to the dozen Republicans in the upper chamber.

A Guglielmo endorsement opens the possibility of a significant harvest of delegates for Griebel in the 13 towns of Guglielmo’s northeastern Connecticut district. They might just do it for Tony.
