Which Doesn’t Belong and Why? McCoy to Explore U.S. Senate Run By Spending More Time With Family.
Republican Jason McCoy announced Friday he won’t seek a third term as mayor of Vernon in November. Instead, in a dizzying declaration of intentions, McCoy, according to the Hartford Courant, will
-Spend more time with his family.
-Devote more attention to his law practice.
-“Move on to the next level” by exploring a run for the United States Senate.
McCoy has run into some headwinds leading Vernon as Democrats have raised questions about his hiring practices and Republicans have been slow to defend their party leader. He considered making a bid for the 2010 Republican nomination for attorney general. McCoy provided some memorable moments last year when he presided over the 2nd Congressional District nominating convention and got into a public dispute with bewildered delegates when he refused to announce the results of the first ballot.
UPDATE: More from the Journal Inquirer (behind a pay wall): “‘I have decided to spend more time with my family, to focus on my career as a lawyer, and to explore a run for the United States Senate,’ McCoy said at a press conference at Town Hall.”
