Don’t Mistake a Vacancy for a Resurrection.

Felonious former governor John G. Rowland was seen in Farmington at the scene of radio show interviews at Connecticut talk radio station WTIC-AM on Thursday.  The three term Republican resigned his office in disgrace in 2004 after being caught in a corruption scandal that sent him to jail the next year.

Rowland, whose career as a motivational speaker never took flight like that charter flight to Vegas that got him into so much trouble, relied on the kindness of old Waterbury friends in the Chamber of Commerce to fund an economic development job with the city.  Something to do with brown fields, grants and new business.

An opening in WTIC’s morning schedule occurred last week when the station and host Jim Vicevich failed to come to terms on a new contract.  The prospect of prisoner number 15623-014 taking to the airwaves to opine on political rights and wrongs will cause a race between listeners and advertisers to flee the CBS-owned station that axed talented favorites Diane Smith and Colin McEnroe last year.

Rowland will bookend the “Give Me All You Got, Connecticut” slot on Mondays and Fridays, sandwiched around Joe Ganim on Tuesdays (live from a Hartford halfway house); Ernie Newton on Wednesdays (live from a Waterbury halfway house); and Phil Giordano on Thursdays with a live remote from a prison to be named later.

Does he think he can do a radio show without being asked what he did to his wife that brought the police to their home? Does WTIC think that putting a suspected spousal abuser on the air will pull in advertisers? And when did Rowland ever have anything interesting to say anyway?

John Rowland can work a room, but he’s hardly a dazzling conversationalist, and I suspect he’d have nothing to say to the grassroots conservatives who formed the core of the Vicevich audience. Rowland already betrayed those people once, when he glommed on to the anti-income tax movement, only to turn his back on the cause as a candidate and as governor. The tea party folks know not to trust him.

From a “something to talk about” side of me, this sounds neat.

I’d take Rowland over Joe any day! Joe’s a no good SOB – he just didn’t get caught!
